Who can benefit

Traders, manufacturers and Service providers selling services to essentially top class East African Companies on credit and who desire to sell the invoice to a bank

Product explained

The trader selling goods on credit to top class company can sell their invoice to TNB just like selling any other goods and services. As a result of the same, the trader no longer is creditor of the purchaser company and instead the bank becomes the creditor to the purchaser company. The bank acquired ownership of the invoice including the right to sue the purchaser company in bank’s own name in the vent of non-payment. The bank does factoring on with recourse basis and retains the right to sell the invoice back to the trader at any time at the bank’s sole discretion. Bank and the trader write a factoring agreement covering invoices covered under a limit.

Features

  • Invoices of up to 45 days maturity can be factored
  • Invoices of Kshs. 1 Million and under are factored. For larger invoices, special arrangements are required.
  • The purchaser company should be on TNB’s approved list. Pl. inquired with TNB Credit Officers to find out if your customer company is approved or not.
  • TNB does not factor invoices on Government and Parastatal companies generally
  • Factoring agreement is required to be signed
  • Trader submits invoice, a letter addressed to purchaser company advising them of sale/factoring of the invoice. The bank send the invoice to the purchaser company to record consent to the factoring and undertaking to pay to TNB. TNB releases the payment.
  • The process takes less than three-four days and thus an instant source of cash flow
  • Kenya Shilling Product and very small foreign currency window available.

TNB overdraft

TNB overdraft  a credit facility that is drawn from a current account on a debit basis (In other words, below zero) and must be granted by the bank before drawings are made. Overdrafts are generally a short-term facility used to temporarily increase cash-flow and allows you to spend the approved funds from your current account. You will only pay interest on the amount of debit balance in your account. The borrower pays back the amount overdrawn and the interest on the amount overdrawn.

Who can get this facility ?

All businesses such as Companies, Partnerships, Proprietorship, etc.

Charges

Annual appraisal fee of 1% for an overdraft facility.

The amount that an account can be overdrawn (limit) is agreed in advance between the current account holder and TNB

Interest is charged daily on an overdraft. The interest rate varies and can change daily. The amount of interest paid is dependent on how much the account is overdrawn by and for how long.

You should contact your bank branch if you wish to find out about overdraft facilities. Applying for an overdraft includes filling out a form and can also involve meeting with our branch officials.
